REINHARD SILBERBERG
Permanent Representative of Germany
to the European Union
Brussels, Belgium
Dear Ambassador,
In my responsibilities of co-operator with the Administration of Justice as attorney (article 542 Judiciary Law), I am writing to you to express serious concern for the Spanish judicial system, totally infiltratred by the Prelature of Opus Dei. Declared sect by the Belgian Parliament, this organization to which secretly belongs two thirds of judges and eight out of ten public prosecutors, exercices a strong control over its members as well as collusion between them, root causes of endemic judicial corruption that subverts the Rule of Law.
Article 6 (1) of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms guaranties the right to a fair trial by an independent and impartial tribunal. On the other hand, secret societies are prohibited under the whole European Area of Freedom, Security and Justice. The Union is founded on the values of respect for human rights and Rule of Law (article 2 TEU). This Treaty aims to ensure that all its countries observe common values, so it empowers the Council to “determine the existence of a serious and persistent breach by a Member State”, article 7(2).
For the above reasons, in view of the clear and serious infringement of EU law, I urge the authorities of your country to submit to the European Council a proposal regarding the Kingdom of Spain, so that its judges and prosecutors reveal the bonds with the “Work of God” (Opus Dei).
Yours sincerely,
Magí Ribas Alegret
